Understanding our versions
The version number is a way of tracking what changes have been made and when. It allows us to reflect over time how the platform has changed.
When we introduce a major technology change, such as our move to SaaS, the prefix number changes. Example, our first release was 1.0 and our move to SaaS is 2.0.
Feature releases within the current technology stack have the suffix incremented. For instance after the SaaS platform goes live as 2.0, the first release after that which introduces new capability will be 2.1.
Finally, minor releases will only deal with fixing errors in the software. Fix releases will be delivered on a regular schedule and will be identified by an additional incremental suffix. The first fix release after 2.0 goes live will be 2.0.1. The first fix release after 2.1 goes live will be 2.1.1, and so on.
By following strict version control in this way, operators will be able to better understand the evolution of the platform.
